Last month scientist confirmed toxic algae was present in Lake Okeechobee and waterways linking to the St. Lucie and Indian Rivers. Toxic algae and red tides threaten our local economy and the drinking water of millions of Floridians. The special legislative session gives you the opportunity to ACT NOW to save our natural resources.
Florida’s tourism economy is at risk and it’s time for the legislature to listen to more than 200 scientists and 75 of Florida voters to protect our drinking water and the Everglades by formulating a long term plan for water storage and clean up south of Lake Okeechobee.
Last November, 75% of us voted to approve a constitutional amendment to buy land that would protect our drinking water, save our rivers and beaches and protect the Everglades. We need a long term plan that includes buying land south of Lake Okeechobee to store and clean water, but Big Sugar and their lobbyists oppose these plans are making tens of millions of dollars in campaign contributions to our elected officials.
Tell the Florida legislature, our future is not for sale. Sign the petition to buy the land and save our economy and drinking water -- before it’s too late.
